he lived in my house
Monica Casey ©2000 Pig In The Sky Productions (BMI)

i don't remember much about him
sometimes i see his laughing eyes
i don't remember his embrace
but the pictures show his friendly face

i know he lived in my house
'cause his shoes lined the closet floor
And his robe of burgundy plaid
hung from a hook on their bedroom door

sometimes i see him at his place at our kitchen table
not often but every once in a while i hear his laughter
when i'm able

and i think about the many things he did and did not do
all the big and little things a father's supposed to do
he could've taught me how to dance
he could've walked me down the aisle
he could've taught me about boys and love
and how to rise above

i can see him in his Sunday best
leisure suit white patent leather shoes
as the ten of us filed into church
ten of us in a pew

he left one day without a word
for three maybe it was four years
didn't seem that odd to me
like that's how it's supposed to be

i haven't seen him for awhile
though we spoke last september
i heard he moved to florida
exactly where i don't remember

and i see the old men who walk
the streets and sit alone at the bar a-drinkin
and i wonder if their mothers saw them now
what would they be thinking
and i wonder if he walks the streets
or sits alone at the bar a-drinkin
if he ever wonders to himself what in the world
was i thinking
